The origins of the team begin at local Church, St Edmund Campion. A group from the Church set up a team to compete in a local Church league nearly 15 years ago. A combination of 'older' gents and younger players, they entered the Chiltern Church League and Campion FC was born.
Having reached a couple finals and gained promotion to the top division in the league, their pinnacle came the year in which they won the title without a single defeat, seeing off title hopefuls and local rivals River Church 6-1 to clinch the league title.
However, over time the connection to St Edmund Campion became strained with many of the founding members retiring and new young players having no affiliation to the Church, so after many years in the Chiltern Church League a decision was made to leave the league and begin competing in the East Berkshire League under the name Campion Utd. Starting their life in this league in the bottom division they gained several promotions and one relegation and found themselves in the Division 3.
In the 2010/11 season Magpies found themselves in need of some fresh faces but this became difficult as they were not affiliated with a youth team and relied on people who they knew. At the same time Maidenhead Magpies were expressing an interest in developing a mens team as many of their players left as there was no destination for them beyond youth football which was a tremendous waste of talent.
In the pre-season of 2011/12 it was agreed that Campion Utd would dissolve and become Maidenhead Magpies FC's Adult Team. Whilst it was sad to see the end of Campion after its inception by members of the St Edmund Campion Church all those years ago, the oppurtunity to provide young players a smooth transition into adult football is still in keeping with the original ethos, to enjoy playing football.
Now the team can look forward to seeing some of the talent in the lower age groups filter into the adults team and over time improve year on year until they are considered a force in the top division of the East Berks League and beyond.
